This is what a Mass Save home energy assessment looks like

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—It’s shaping up to be an expensive winter for Massachusetts residents, with home heating costs expected to rise dramatically compared to last year.

One way to reduce your energy consumption is by scheduling a home energy assessment through Mass Save.

“This program is very popular right now,” said Kate Peters, Director of Residential Energy Efficiency at Eversource. “With fuel costs up across the board, it’s really important for you to look for ways to reduce your energy use which will help you save money but can also make your home more comfortable.”

Peters said a home energy assessment can help residents cut their energy use by ten to 20 percent. Boston 25 followed a Mass Save energy specialist as he inspected a Cambridge home last month.

“When you have a professional go through the house they can really find areas that you may not even realize need some work, and they can give you a list of recommendations for all the best things you can do to save money, from insulation, to sealing up air leaks,” Peters said.

Boston 25 toured National Grid’s Sustainability Hub in Worcester and learned more about four free devices from Mass Save that can help homeowners save.

A company spokesperson said National Grid and Mass Save will conduct close to 50,000 home energy assessments this year.

“Getting a new heat pump, getting solar panels, getting an [electric vehicle], upgrading all your insulation, those are costly investments, but that’s exactly what they are, they’re investments. They’re going to

give you a return, you’re going to see the payback on those,” said Taylor Loubris, National Grid’s Sustainability Hub manager.
