Boston police investigating cruiser crash, shots fired incidents near South Bay Shopping Center

BOSTON, Mass. — Police in Boston are investigating a trio of overnight incidents, including a crash involving a cruiser and a two shots fired calls in the area of a shopping plaza.

An officer responding to a report of a shooting crashed with another vehicle in the area of the intersection of Columbia Road and Stanwood Street near Hollywood Liquors in Dorchester just before 1 a.m., according to Boston police. The cruiser sustained significant front end damage.

Boston police say the officer involved in the crash suffered serious injuries but is expected to be OK. The person in the vehicle that was struck by the cruiser was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene just before 5:00 a.m.

Officers also responded to a report of shots fired near the Best Buy at the South Bay Shopping Center. Video from the scene showed evidence markers in the parking lot.

Boston EMS confirmed they were called to a second shots fired incident on Massachusetts Avenue, not too far from the shopping center.

The crash and shots fired calls happened around the same time but it’s not clear if the incidents are connected.

Boston 25 has reached out to police for comment.
