25 Investigates: Dorchester teen accused of attacking principal appears on upgraded charges

BOSTON — Family members of Boston Public School Principal Patricia Lampron attended the arraignment of the teen accused of attacking her last November. Lampron’s daughter and sister were among those seated behind the prosecution.

As 25 Investigates first reported, 17-year-old Laurette LeRouge of Dorchester has been indicted as a “youthful offender”. The upgraded charge opens her case to the public and allows her to face adult sentencing.

Prior the afternoon hearing, LeRouge’s attorney, Patrick J. Colvario, asked that she appear in court by video. Juvenile Court Judge Sylvia Gomes denied the request but ordered that LeRouge’s face not be photographed by a pool camera in the courtroom.

According to police, the unprovoked attack happened outside the Dr. William Henderson K-12 Inclusion School in Dorchester.  Principal Lampron was punched in the head with a closed fist and knocked unconscious for several minutes. She was hospitalized with a head injury and is still recovering.

Judge Gomes ordered that LeRouge remain on home confinement with a GPS monitoring device. She is allowed to leave for work and to attend a Boston Police program for “at-risk” youth.

Attorney Colvario entered a plea of, “not a youthful offender” on Lerouge’s behalf. It is similar to a not guilty plea in adult court.

Principal Lampron has not returned to the Henderson School since the attack. According to the president of Local 888, the union that represents Boston Public school staffers, 5 Henderson employees went on leave after the attack for what he calls “unaddressed safety concerns” at the school.
