State police investigating Brimfield crash that killed 3 teens, left 1 injured

BRIMFIELD, Mass. — Three teens were killed and one was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Brimfield early Sunday morning, Massachusetts State Police said.

State police troopers from the Sturbridge Barracks responded to the area of 40 East Brimfield-Holland Rd. for reports of a crash just before 1 a.m.

When troopers arrived on the scene they found a 2006 Nissan Sentra that had gone off the road and rolled over about 40 feet into the wood line, according to state police.

Three of the occupants were pronounced dead on the scene: a 17-year-old Oxford boy, an 18-year-old West Brookfield man, and a 19-year-old Holland man who is believed to have been driving.

It was later determined that a fourth occupant, a 17-year-old Brookfield boy, left the scene prior to the arrival of state troopers and had checked himself into Harrington Hospital with serious injuries.

Two of the victims attended Tantasqua High School, according to Brimfield Superintendent of Schools Deborah Boyd.

In a statement, Boyd said, “We are deeply saddened by the news that the lives of 2 of our Tantasqua High School students were lost in a tragic accident overnight. Our hearts go out to their families as well as our students and staff. Counselors will be available at the high school at the beginning of the week for any of our school community in need of support.”

The names of the victims have not been released yet.

An investigation remains ongoing.
