Shrewsbury woman killed after a collision with a school bus identified

SHREWSBURY, Mass. — A Shrewsbury woman was killed after a serious crash involving a school bus on Thursday morning, authorities said.

The Worcester District Attorney’s Office identified the victim as April Handley, 49.

Shrewsbury Police and fire responded to South Quinsigamond Ave. at May St. just before 11 a.m. for reports of a crash. Officials had determined on the scene that the vehicle had crashed into a school bus.

Handley had sustained serious injuries and was transported to UMass Memorial where she was later pronounced dead.

Police said there were no students on the bus at the time of the crash but the bus driver and an aide sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital to be treated.

The cause of the crash is not known and is being investigated by Shrewsbury police, the District Attorney’s Office, and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council’s accident reconstruction unit.
