Restaurants by Nantasket Beach hope a summer like spike in temps helps spike business too

HULL, Mass. — While Friday was still cool outside along the strip at Nantasket Beach, things are heating up inside The Parrot restaurant.

“Absolutely we’re ready for it we’ve been waiting all winter long for some nice weather is finally coming,” said Brian Houlihan who is the owner of The Parrot.

Crowds of customers are a long time coming. Houlihan bought this place just before COVID-19.

“So, we’ve never had a real summer yet. And with the social distancing with a takeout only but this summer we’re ready,” said Houlihan.

Folks who walk along the beach are ready too. Barbara Giachetti who walks the beach daily says this weekend she’ll start her steps first thing in the morning.

“Early because if they’re right they say it’s gonna be be in the 90s so it’s going to be mobbed,” said Giachetti.

In the center of Hull Scoops ice cream shop dishes out a summer favorite. It’ll be an especially hot item when temperatures are expected to soar this weekend.

“Absolutely, you’ve got to have some ice cream on the hottest day. I mean it’s going to be a record breaker for the season,” said Margaret McKenna, a customer from Hingham.

Kathy Prevett is the owner of Scoops. She’s also been impacted by covid restrictions and she’s ready for some big business.

“So this is the first normal summer I feel like,” said Previtt.

And if last weekends crowds were any indication this weekend’s hot weather should draw even more people.

“Line out the door, line out the door,” said Previtt.

Back at The Parrot they feel the same way.

“I think it’s definitely coming our way this summer we are getting ready for a great summer down here in Hull,” said Houlihan.

The biggest concern is a worker shortage but luckily working by the beach seems to be a bonus. Scoops is fully staffed and The Parrot is getting close but still hiring.
