Report: Patriots sign former Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki to bolster offense

FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots have signed former Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki, a move that bolsters New England’s offensive as quarterback Mac Jones enters his third NFL season, according to a report.

Gesicki is making the move from South Beach to Foxboro on a one-year contract, the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said.

Bill O’Brien, who was hired as New England’s new offensive coordinator back in January, recruited Gesicki to play his college football at Penn State, ESPN’s Field Yates noted.

Gesicki, who stands 6-foot-6, hauled in 231 passes and 18 touchdowns in five seasons with the Dolphins. He had a career high 73 receptions in 2021.

Gesicki will join veteran Hunter Henry in the New England tight end room. Henry nabbed 41 balls in 2022 for 509 yards and a pair of scores.

The 27-year-old is also known for his fun touchdown celebrations.

The addition of Gesicki comes after the Patriots traded fellow tight end Jonnu Smith to the Atlanta Falcons earlier this week.

Since free agency opened, New England has been working to rebuild its offense, adding former Pro Bowl wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster, veteran tackle Riley Reiff, and former Jaguars and Jets running back James Robinson.
