Police investigating ‘murder-suicide’ at a Hyannis home; two children found safe

HYANNIS, Mass. — The Barnstable County DA’s office has identified the man and woman found dead in an apparent case of murder-suicide early Friday morning.

Authorities say 44-year-old Luiz Castro Jr fatally stabbed his wife, Aline De Lima Ferreira De Castro, 38, with a knife, before hanging himself.

The couple’s two children, ages 11 and 7 were in the home at the time and are now in the care of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.

A check of Barnstable County courts revealed no restraining orders and no pending charges against Luiz Castro, Jr.

The incident happened in the family home at 66 Murray Way.

Police answering a 911 call raced to the scene at 248AM.

The video showed police making their way inside the house with guns drawn.

Along quiet Murray Way, neighbors were left stunned.

“It is definitely a shock,” said Barry Paulin. “How can there be any reaction except, it’s horrible?

Absolutely horrible. Don’t care what their problems were, they can be worked out.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
