Patriots sign special teams ace Chris Board to 2-year deal

FOXBORO — Two kickoff returns from the Buffalo Bills kept the Patriots out of the playoffs last year. New England’s latest signing proves they’re trying to flip special teams from a weakness to a strength.

The Patriots have signed special teams ace Chris Board to a two-year deal, according to reports. The deal with worth a maximum value of $6.7 million but he is unlikely to be paid that full amount.

Board, 27, was a crucial factor on special teams for the Lions in 2022.

Before their Week 5 matchup against Detroit, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick singled out Board for his contributions.

“That’s the best special teams player we’ll play against all year. He’s a great, great player,” Belichick said.
