Mass. teen continuing treatment at Boston hospital, following drive-by shooting in Canada

BOSTON — 14-year-old Sandrick Jorcelin of Tewksbury, was taken by ambulance to a waiting plane in Montreal, Thursday, so he could be transferred to Mass General Hospital to continue treatment following a recent shooting in Canada.

Jorcelin’s trip will cost 30-thousand dollars, and is being funded by a GoFundMe page started by his parents.

“We want him here and we’re happy he is home,” said Carmelle Laine, who is Sandrick’s godmother.

On Sunday, the Tewksbury teen and his family were at a 50th birthday party just outside Montreal, Canada. As the family left the party, their car was sprayed with bullets.

Sandrick’s 28-year-old uncle died in the shooting. Sandrick’s mother was grazed by a bullet, and Sandrick was struck too.

“Her brother died in her arms and her son was in the back of the car. He got shot in the abdomen and he still has the bullet in his back,” said Laine.

Police believe it was a case of mistaken identity. Sandrick can’t walk or stand but is getting some feeling back in his legs.

On Thursday in Canada — a tearful reunion — Sandrick was able to thank the police officer who helped save him.

Now at MGH this teen who loves basketball and the Celtics, hopes to play again one day and his family does too.

“We are expecting for him to have surgery. And from now I am very positives and we all have to be positive and pray,” said Laine.

His family is confident he’ll get the best care possible to help him on his long road to recovery .

If you’d like to help defray some of those costs, you can do so at the following GoFundMe link.
