Kidnapping suspect Louis Coleman caught on surveillance video on day of arrest

BOSTON — Federal prosecutors believe they will wrap up the evidence portion of their case this week against Louis Coleman. Coleman is accused of kidnapping Jassy Correia outside Boston nightclub and causing her death.

Jassy Correia’s parents were in court on Day 6 of testimony. They have not been commenting as they leave each day – only looking overwhelmed on what they see every day as federal prosecutors lay out their case.

In new testimony, we saw surveillance video where prosecutors say you first see the car matching Coleman’s vehicle drive into a Grotto Pizza parking lot in Delaware. The investigator testified you then see a man matching Coleman’s description carrying two items from his vehicle to a trash area. Investigators tried to search that trash, but they say it was emptied by the time they found this surveillance video.

We also heard from investigators about what they say they found in the car that Coleman was in when the Delaware State Trooper pulled him over. We also saw the cracks in the passenger side windshield. Investigators say there were two cracks on the passenger side windshield of the vehicle. They took DNA from around the cracks to determine if the cracks were made by someone banging or hitting their head or foot. The results were not offered into testimony on Monday.

Investigators also went through everything of interest they found in Coleman’s Red Buick Regal, including an open box of black contractor trash bags, pruning loppers and work gloves. The actual suitcase Correia’s body was found in was also held up in court, causing her father, who sat through the graphic Medical Examiner testimony last week, to become visibly upset.

Federal prosecutors expect to be through all of their evidence by Wednesday, and the defense says it needs at least a couple of days. The jury is expected to get this case right after the holiday weekend.
