Frustrations mount at Logan Airport as JetBlue cancellations, delays continue

BOSTON — Many travelers in Terminal C at Logan Airport were scrambling to make other arrangements after a weekend of flight cancellations and delays from JetBlue bled into Monday morning.

“I feel physically sick, it’s just out of our control, completely out of our control,” said Matt Sahm, of Boston. “We just have no clue what to do.”

Sahm and his girlfriend were on their way to Logan Airport Monday morning when they found out their flight to New York City was cancelled, putting their entire trip to Costa Rica in jeopardy.

“We had this booked for a few months and they just canceled out of nowhere,” said Sahm.As of Monday morning, of the 50 flights canceled at Logan Airport, 38 were with JetBlue.

“I got a boarding pass yesterday, everything was still fine, I checked in for the 24 hours and then as soon as I get in, the minute I get here they change the flight to canceled,” said Frank Sapareto, of Derry, New Hampshire. “I’ve got 14 hours of wasted vacation time now and I’m only on a three-day vacation.”

JetBlue released a statement over the weekend apologizing to customers for the disruptions.

“Severe weather in the Southeast and multiple air traffic control delay programs have created significant impacts on the industry,” a JetBlue spokesperson said in a statement. “Today’s [Sunday’s] cancellations will help us reset our operation and safely move our crews and aircraft back into position.”

Many customers Boston 25 News spoke to weren’t understanding of the explanation.”I wasn’t aware there was a storm down south,” said Sahm. “I’m just frustrated. Pay your employees, you know, this is unacceptable.”

Travelers said they don’t want excuses, they just want dependable departures.

“I don’t know what the real story is,” said Daneil Sarrouf, of Worcester. “I just feel bad for a lot of people. Vacations have been ruined and people have work this week, work this morning, and they’re going to miss out on work time and vacation time. It’s frustrating.”
