Gloucester man remembered for big heart; love of Tom Brady

GLOUCESTER, Mass. — Mike Schmorrow was born and raised in Gloucester.  He was nicknamed “Moose” because of his size and bigger than life attitude and heart.  “Mike is a larger than life guy”, says his coworker and friend Travis Mackillop.  “He fills up a room with his personality. People were attracted to Mike.  He’s just a likeable guy”

Mike was a true New Englander and die hard Tom Brady fan. “I’ve always loved him.  Whether he was in Tampa Bay or New England, it didn’t matter to me,” Mike told us recently.

Last November, Mike was diagnosed with a curable form of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and folks were optimistic about his recovery.  But in the next three months, the cancer turned out to be a rare form of Lymphoma.

In February, doctors told Mike he only had a couple months to live.

A family friend from Gloucester reached out to Tom Brady to tell him about Mike’s cancer and what his family was going through.  Brady sent Mike back a personal video congratulating him and Jen on the birth of their new baby boy Axel and encouraging Mike to fight.

Mike did fight, all the way up until Saturday, March 5th.  That was the day he was supposed to give Jen the wedding reception she never had.  Mike never made it to the reception, he died early that morning.  But friends and family still gathered to honor Mike and his legacy.

A go fund me page has been set up to raise money for Mike’s family.  Please consider donating to his family’s future here.
