WESTPORT, Mass. — A dryer is being eyed as the cause of a fire at a Westport home on Friday, fire officials said.
Westport firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at a home on Robert Street in the coastal community on Friday afternoon.
When firefighters arrived, they found a fire in the crawlspace of the home.
To access the area, firefighters cut the floor away, found the seat of the fire and extinguished it before it spread any further, fire officials said.
The home remains habitable and the residents and their belongings are safe, but the home will need extensive cleanup, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Tiverton responded to the scene along with Westport EMA to assist firefighters.
