Woman hospitalized, road left littered with trash after BMW slams into house in Hanson

HANSON, Mass. — A woman was taken to the hospital after the BMW she was driving went off the road and slammed into a home in Hanson on Tuesday morning, leaving behind a trail of toppled barrels and trash in the street.

Emergency crews responding to a report of a crash at 1283 Whitman Street near the Hanson-Whitman town line just before 7 a.m. found a mangled white convertible resting in the grass next to a home and the roadway littered with garbage.

Video from the scene showed tire marks across the lawn leading to where the car struck the home.

The 49-year-old driver was extricated from the wrecked vehicle and taken to the hospital. There was no word on the extent of her injuries.

The area was closed to traffic for hours due to the large emergency response.

The house sustained extensive damage and a building inspector is now in the process of assessing the structural integrity of the home. Eversource also responded to the scene because the home’s water and gas lines were severed.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Bureau is assisting Hanson police with an investigation into the cause of the crash.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
