Couple blames Salisbury dog boarding business after death of dog

SALISBURY, Mass. — A couple is mourning the death of their beloved dog, just four days after dropping him off at a dog boarding facility.

Brittany Martin said she dropped off her dog Mikah at Nose to Nub in Salisbury on Tuesday. She told Boston 25 News she returned to pick Mikah up on Saturday after traveling to Texas for her brother’s military graduation.

Martin said she instantly realized something was wrong as soon as she laid eyes on her pet.

“Found him unconscious, unresponsive, limp...barely able to look at me in a bush in her yard,” said Martin. “He was going in and out of consciousness, and I was trying to shake him and wake him up.”

According to Martin, she was greeted by the devastating sight of her unresponsive dog.

“He hadn’t been eating in a couple of days, which she didn’t tell us until we picked him up that day,” explained Martin.

Martin said Mikah died in the car as they were rushing him to a local veterinarian’s office.

“I was like two minutes away at a red light, and I turned around and he had stopped breathing,” she recalled.

A devastated Martin brought her deceased dog to a veterinarian, who said he suspected heat stroke may have played a factor. A necropsy is now being performed on Mikah at UNH to get more answers.

Martin and her husband have also filed a report with Salisbury Police.

“This shouldn’t have happened. It was preventable,” she said. “She could have called me and told me something was wrong with him, and she didn’t.”

There was no answer at the door of the dog boarding business when Boston 25 News showed up on Tuesday night. Boston 25 News wasn’t able to reach the business owner by telephone for comment either.
