Bullets shatter a bedroom window in Somerville - inside three young girls were sleeping

SOMERVILLE, Mass. — The sound of bullets and breaking glass awoke three young girls in an apartment in Somerville’s Saint Polycarp Village Apartments at about 10 p.m. on Sunday night.

Havilah Nimako, 12 years old, describes what she heard.

“We heard like phew, phew, phew and then shattered,” said Havilah Nimako.

She and her sister Gigi, 7 years old, say a bullet shattered the window right above their older sister’s bed.

“Around 10 o’clock at night we heard pop, pop, pop, like five gunshots,” said Stella Nimako, who is the girls’ mother.

When Stella ran in, her daughters, who all share this bedroom, showed her the damage.

“My oldest told me mommy, I think something just hit our window…I said are you sure and she said yes,” said Stella Nimako.

‘That’s when my mom came in, and that’s when we saw it in the window and were like, there it is,” said Havilah Nimako.

The Nimako girls were in shock.

“Oh my God, it actually did happen,” said Havilah Nimako realizing what had taken place.

Little Gigi was crying,

“I’m feeling traumatized. I don’t feel like our neighborhood is safe anymore,” said Gigi Nimako.

Their mom is now upset and mad, too.

“Angry and scared,” said Stella Nimako.

She and her daughters have a message for whoever did this.

‘That it’s not ok. It’s not ok,” said Stella Nimako. And her daughter agrees.

“Kids live around here. You can’t just keep doing that because it’s unfair to the people, and what if somebody actually got hurt?” said Havilah Nimako.

Those young girls say they’ll have a tough time getting to sleep tonight and in the near future. That’s because this isn’t the first time this has happened. Just last month, stray bullets went through two homes just a couple of blocks away.

Somerville Police ask anyone with information about what happened to call them.
