Busiest air travel day of the year arrives at Logan Airport as people return home after Thanksgiving

BOSTON — The Sunday after Thanksgiving is known for being the busiest air travel day of the year bringing huge crowds to airports, and lines were building up early at Logan Airport in Boston.

“I know it’s a huge travel day today so I’m not surprised that it’s super busy although I didn’t expect it to be this busy this early in the morning,” said Haley Director, of Boston. “It’s definitely busier than when I landed. I came in last Sunday.”

The day before Thanksgiving, the Transportation Security Administration screened nearly 13,000 more passengers this year compared to that day last year.

The TSA and the Massachusetts Port Authority both recommend getting to the airport at least two hours early for your domestic flight in order to leave yourself plenty of time to get through security.

“Just coming early, my flight is three hours from now, so I came too early,” said Satyapriya Krishna Boston, a student in Boston. “I’ve traveled during this time, but I’ve never seen this much crowds.” The TSA released advice to help people get through security screening faster.

They recommend having your license or other identification card out and ready while in line so you’ll be ready when you reach the checkpoint.

They also suggest putting any items – such as your cellphone, lip balm, or wallet – into your carry-on to save time when you get to the baggage scanners.
