70,000 fans will brave the heat for Garth Brooks concert at Gillette

FOXBORO, Mass. — With temperatures expected to hit the mid-90′s Saturday, Foxboro town officials are preparing for a busy—and potentially dangerous—weekend at Gillette Stadium. An estimated 70,000 concertgoers are expected to attend the second night of The Garth Brooks Stadium Tour.

“Obviously with the heat we’re concerned people will be a little complacent. It was 50 degrees when we woke up [Friday],” Foxboro Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Buckley said. “I don’t think anybody is realizing how it is in New England on a really hot day because I think we’re really going to get blasted.”

Buckley said the town does not provide specific numbers for how many medical personnel may be working an event, but did say EMTs would be stationed around the venue for anyone who needs help.

“We have made preparations. We have our staff ready for [the heat]. There will be cooling stations, places for people to go to cool off,” Buckley said.

Gillette Stadium concerts generally draw around 55,000 attendees, but because of the stage configuration at midfield, promoters were able to fill more seats inside the stadium. The Garth  Brooks shows are the first concerts at Gillette since Aug. 2019.

Eray Arslan and his wife Rebecca drove in from West Springfield for the Friday night performance.

“The heat is going to be brutal Saturday so I hope everyone who is coming is ready,” Eray said.

“I thank heaven that we somehow got [tickets Friday] and not Saturday because I don’t know if I could do it,” Rebecca said.

Tickets for the Saturday performance are sold out but still available on the secondary-market.
