50 people displaced after apartment building in Roxbury catches fire

ROXBURY, Mass. — Nearly 50 people were forced out of their homes after a fire broke out in a five-story building early Wednesday morning.

The flames broke out at 72 Northampton Street in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston.

Boston firefighters responded quickly to the three-alarm fire after flames could be seen coming from the roof of the 32-unit building.

Firefighters ran hoses through the building and sprayed a lot of water on it to quickly contain the flames.

Video shared with Boston 25 showed raging flames as crews worked at the scene.

Everybody inside and their pets were able to get out safely. The deputy chief says there is some water damage on the inside.

The Red Cross was called in to help people find a place to stay.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
