25 Investigates: Driving record of the man behind the wheel in deadly Hingham crash

25 Investigates has gathered more information regarding Bradley Rein, the driver of the car that barreled through a Hingham Apple Store Monday, killing one and injuring 20 others.

Rein, who recently moved to the South Shore from Natick, only has one serious violation on his record. A now-expunged 2021 drunk driving charge he received in Vermont. Rein pleaded no contest to the charge. The police report says a Vermont State Trooper saw Reid “lose his balance and almost fall over” following a single-car crash near Sugarbush Ski Resort.

Rein’s Massachusetts driving history is clean.

25 Investigates has also learned that the 2019 Toyota 4-Runner that plunged through the Apple storefront is currently being held at Lynch’s Towing in Brockton. Investigators will search it for any sign of mechanical problems.

According to court documents, Rein told police his right foot became stuck on the accelerator and he tried to brake with his left foot. Court documents also cite Rein as saying “his foot got stuck on the accelerator once in the past while driving on the highway.”

25 Investigates’ search of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Database did not find any recalls for 4-Runners with acceleration issues and there were no similar complaints from other 4-Runner owners on file.

25 Investigates paid a visit to Rein’s two most recent addresses, an apartment at the Hingham Shipyard and a house on a tree-lined street in Natick. According to a neighbor next to the Natick home, the house was sold after Rein and his wife separated.

The Massachusetts RMV has suspended Rein’s license in accordance with protocol in any deadly crash.

Rein maintains the deadly event was an accident.
